UND University Senate opposes bills to revive 'Fighting Sioux' nick

The University Senate at the
University of North Dakota has voted to oppose three bills that would revive the school's controversial "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo.
The University Senate, which represents faculty, staff, student and administration, voted 44-1 to oppose the legislation.
The resolution said the effort would only "divide" the community.
The North Dakota Board of Higher Education voted to retire the nickname and logo but Republican lawmakers are trying to keep it alive.
