Osage Nation optimistic as high court weighs reservation case

The
Osage Nation of Oklahoma remains hopeful that the
U.S. Supreme Court will take up its reservation status case.
In March 2010, the
10th Circuit Court of
Appeals ruled that the reservation was diminished by an act of Congress.
The tribe wants the Supreme Court to review the decision, which could happen after the
Department of Justice submits a brief in the case.
While this is just another step in what has been a very lengthy process, we are relieved by today’s decision and will continue to pursue every option available to us,” Osage Nation Principal Chief John Red Eagle said in a
press release. “We are confident in the merits of our case, and we are hopeful the Supreme Court accepts our Cert petition.”
