Matthew Box, the chairman of the
Southern Ute Tribe of
Colorado, survived a recall election last year but is facing pressure to resign his post.
The tribal council on Monday asked Box to resign. The Durango Herald said he could step down as early as Friday.
"We have some major issues we have to overcome with our tribal government," elder Ray C. Frost told the paper.
Executive Officer Johnny Valdez and co-executive officer Andrew Frost resigned, fueling speculation about Box's departure.
