Two officials from Napa County, California, were in Washington, D.C., to discuss their federal recognition fight against the
Mishewal Wappo
Tribe.
The county intervened in a lawsuit the tribe filed against the
Interior Department.
Officials are worried that the tribe might acquire land in the county or try to open a casino there.
The tribe was terminated by an act of Congress in 1959. The lawsuit claims the federal government failed to abide by the law.
