Notification process begins this week for $3.4B Cobell settlement

The notification process for the $3.4 billion settlement to the Indian trust fund lawsuit begins on Thursday, January 20.

According to Elouise Cobell, a member of the Blackfeet Nation of Montana, a "long form notice" will be mailed to beneficiaries whose addresses are on file with the Interior Department. Those who don't receive one can visit https://cert.tgcginc.com/iim/register.php or call 1-800-961-6109.

Additionally, notices will appear in publications across Indian Country and will be aired on television in radio where many beneficiaries live. The plaintiffs also plan to hold a series of meetings to explain the settlement.

"Although there's still a lot of work that has to be done, you can see there's light at the end of the tunnel," Cobell said at a celebration on Saturday on the Blackfeet Reservation, NBC Montana reported.
