Mohegan Tribe scaling back plans for a casino in Massachusetts

Friday, March 4, 2011
Filed Under: Casino Stalker | Legislation

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is still interested in a casino in Massachusetts but the facility won't be as big as originally envisioned.

The tribe says the economic climate is dictating plans for the project. "This isn't a build-it-and-they-will-come business model anymore," Paul I. Brody, the vice president of Mohegan Gaming Advisors, told The Waterbury Republican.

The tribe wants to build the Mohegan Sun Palmer in the western part of Massachusetts. The facility would be located about 60 miles from the reservation in Connecticut.

The plans depend on legalization of casino gaming by the Massachusetts Legislature.
