Big Sandy Rancheria files lawsuit to break gaming agreement

Monday, February 14, 2011

The Big Sandy Rancheria of Western Mono Indians in California has filed a lawsuit in federal court against its former gaming partner.

The tribe says Brownstone LLC of Nevada has refused to comply with licensing requirements of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. The lawsuit seeks to break two agreements that were signed in 2007.

"The tribe does not have a choice," attorney Michael Robinson told The Fresno Bee. "Without the licensing agreement, the contract is essentially illegal."

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has draft environmental impact statement on the tribe's proposed casino.
