Mashantucket Tribe distributes last group of per capita payments

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut made its last round of per capita payments in December 2010.

The tribe shared gaming revenues with members for more than a decade. The yearly payment ranged between $90,000 and $120,000, The New London Day reported.

The tribe ended the practice due to sinking revenues. But a special law ensures that elders over the age of 55 can qualify for assistance of up to $50,000 a year, the paper said.

"It is the policy of the Tribe to assure the essential welfare of its members by providing financial assistance to those Elders in need," the new law states.
